Cosmetic Dentistry Tips: After Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles is a cosmetic dentistry procedure used to solve alignment issues of a patient’s teeth. As the name suggests, it takes only an average of six months to complete, which makes it one of the most ideal dental treatments for patients who don’t want complex corrections to their bite. Once the braces are in place, you must properly care for them to ensure that they will result to a successful treatment. Here are some after care tips for your Six Month Smiles:

  1. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Brush at least three times a day and use interdental brushes and flossto clean underneath the wires. Finish off with a fluoride mouth rinse.
  2. Avoid sticky or hard foods that can be stuck under the braces. You don’t necessarily need to limit your diet to soft foods but be sure to eat only foods that can be chewed easily so as not to break the bonds between the braces.
  3. Avoid food with high sugar and acid content. Eating and drinking such items can lead to enamel damage.
  4. Take prescription medicine for soreness. Immediately after the procedure and up to at least three days, you will feel a slight soreness. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage the pain.
As always, before you get any treatment done, you need to consult with your dentist first. He or she can help you go over your options to find the one that suits you.
