Proper Recovery after Dental Implant Installation

When you’re considering your options for replacing lost teeth, dental implants may be among the most highly recommended options you may take. Dental implants consist of a small titanium rod inserted into the former tooth’s gap with a hole on top to be used as the locking joint for an abutment and later a crown. While the benefits of dental implants will be well worth the operation, you will still have to think about proper recovery.

Post-Surgery Care for Your Dental Implants

Some people think that once dental implants are placed, there’s nothing to worry about. However, post-surgery care also plays a role in your recovery and overall dental health.

Come Back for Check-Ups
To make sure your implants don’t develop any complications, you need to visit your dentist for routine check-ups. This gives your dentist the opportunity to assess the overall health of your teeth after the procedure. Your dentist might use an x-ray to check on your bone structure and the integrity of the dental implant.

Watch What You Put in Your Mouth
You’ll need to avoid hot beverages and food after the surgery. After that, you may only eat food that will not put too much pressure on your new tooth for at least two to four weeks. Stick to eating only soft, easy-to-digest, and nutritious food. Avoid anything spicy or acidic, as well as other unhealthy habits like smoking and consuming alcohol.

Look After Your Dental Hygiene
Most importantly, you need to keep your mouth clean and healthy to mitigate the possibility of developing infection. Routine brushing and flossing is completely necessary, but you should do your best to avoid the area where the implant is attached so you don’t irritate it. For good measure, gargle with a mouthful of mouthwash at least twice a day to avoid any germ build-up in your mouth.

Making the Cut for implantation

Dental implants are one of the devices that have been touted as effective for your oral health needs. They are titanium screws put into your gums as foundation for either a crown or a denture by merging with the jawbone. Still, earning that nod for a London dental implant requires a thorough examination with your preferred dental practitioner, and there are some factors to watch out for.

Are Dental Implants Suitable for You?

Dental implantation is considered the best restoration procedure for chronic teeth loss because it uses materials that function just like natural teeth. Not everybody, however, may qualify for it. There are certain conditions that may impair the effectiveness of the implant.

Keeping the Invisalign Solid and Secure

Wearing Invisalign clear braces may be one of the best dental treatments you can set yourself up for. It’s even better when you got them through the help of experienced dental practitioners who specifically offer Invisalign braces and other popular orthodontic services in London. Still, they will not lack in guiding you on taking care of your aligners, if you do decide to get them. There are ways to make it work:
Brushing
When you’re done with your aligners for the day, take the time to thoroughly brush them with a toothbrush and some toothpaste. It’s important that the bristles are soft so they can remove debris without scraping the aligners. After brushing your aligners, rinse them off with a stream of warm water. Allow them to air-dry before keeping them in their special case.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are quite versatile, and different types of implant replacements are made that are suited for the specific needs of the individual that requires them. Most dental implants are made of titanium, which is highly durable and has a thin film on its surface that could protect it from corrosion. There are several types of implants, and here are some of them:
  • Transosseous implant
    • Involves inserting two metal rods from below the chin until the inside of the mouth. The rods that are exposed in the mouth are where dentures are attached to; however, this type is rarely used these days due to the extensive surgery, anesthesia, and hospitalisation required.

Titanium in Dental Implants

Titanium is widely associated with dental implants. It integrates with natural bone far better than most known metals, and also has the ideal light weight and toughness for the job. However, the strongest implant is not made from pure titanium, but from a titanium alloy.

The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) uses a five-point grading system for biomedical titanium. The highest of these is Grade 5, which is an alloy of titanium, aluminium, and vanadium. This is the most widely used material for medical implants, but not for dental implants because of the susceptibility of vanadium to salivary corrosion.
